Sleep deprivation anyone?

Hmmmm. Why am I so obsessed with my children despite the fact that they deprive me of the one thing I love the most? Does anyone else feel this way? This must be what parenthood is all about....
New Year's weekend Raleigh discovered how to crawl out of her crib. All my friends had been complaining about their children doing the same but we had been fortunate enough to avoid it. It happened in an evening. We were trying to watch a movie and we heard a THUD, pit-patter-pit-patter-pat-pat. Raleigh jumped over the rail and came downstairs to see what we were up to. Mark would put her back in her crib and after about the third time started camping outside her door to observe the little "trapeze artist". So, since I had been sufficiently informed by my friends who had gone through this before- I changed Raleigh's bed into a toddler bed the next day. Oh my gosh! What a battle....
Raleigh has experienced her first spanking (administered by me) and I have never slept less. I will never again think, "Oh ya, that's just YOUR undisciplined child but mine would NEVER do that" (i.e. crawl out of bed after I put her down for the night). So now Gracyn keeps me up by sleeping in my bed until I dump her in my crib at about 2 a.m. and then Raleigh gets out of bed and comes snuggling onto my side at about 4-5 a.m. Lord- why? Why? I LOVE my sleep. Now my queen sized bed is a "family bed". Oh, but I love my babies....

  1. I actually just posted a similar blog post about sleep deprivation. Different details and reasons, but it is one of the hardest parts of motherhood, isn't it! We actually have Makayla sharing a bed with Kalli so Addie can have the crib. That has been an adventure! Good luck catching up on your sleep, maybe in 18 years that will be possible.
